We offer a full range of pediatric dental services at our Augusta, ME office. Procedures include:
Pediatric Preventive Dentistry – Preventive dentistry for kids includes routine dental cleanings every six months in order to remove plaque and tartar, fluoride treatment to strengthen teeth, dental sealants for cavity prevention, and oral hygiene instruction to empower children to take care of their teeth and gums. Educating children, parents and family about how to improve and maintain their oral health is also critical at these appointments.
Pediatric Restorative Dentistry – Restorative dentistry refers to any procedure that restores function and strength to a damaged or decayed tooth. Restorative dental treatments for children include composite fillings for cavities, pulp treatment (also known as pulpotomy, pulpectomy, and baby root canals), and stainless steel or strip crowns. If a tooth cannot be restored using these treatments, a tooth extraction may be needed.
Diagnostic Services – A comprehensive oral evaluation is not only a diagnostic procedure, but also a preventive measure to help us identify minor dental problems before they become serious. During some routine dental visits, digital radiographs may be needed to assist us in diagnosing cavities and other dental problems.
Interceptive Orthodontics – In decades past, orthodontic treatment was reserved for teenagers whose jaws were fully formed. Current best practices have changed and now we seek to influence the jaw as it grows and develops for better results. We provide habit space maintainers as part of Phase 1 orthodontic treatment.
Pediatric Sedation Dentistry – When needed, we can offer nitrous oxide and local anesthetic during procedures to keep children calm and comfortable. In certain circumstances, we may perform dental procedures under general anesthesia in conjunction with an anesthesiologist at Maine General Medical Center.
Laser Dentistry – We use a CO2 Laser to remove cavities, and this procedure can often be done without needles or injections of local anesthesia. This is pain-free dentistry at its best.
